The motivation behind this renovation was to dissolve the antiquated boundaries between the kitchen, living and dining spaces to create an open, family-focused heart of the home. Removing the internal walls that separated these areas created an easy flow between the zones, while a new partition introduced a generous scullery. Tall oak joinery uses the high stud to maximise storage; its subtle grain, negative pull details and integrated appliances forming a neutral backdrop that allows the stainless steel island to take focus. The metal's soft orbital finish reflects the warm tones and glow of the overhanging lights whilst remaining a functional working surface.
Earthquake remedial works were woven into the schedule. Cracked concrete foundations were repaired before the existing Tasmanian Ash herringbone flooring was relaid, extended and refinished in a more sympathetic blonde tone. The bathrooms and laundry retained their functional layout but received a contemporary facelift.
Elsewhere, fresh storage tucks under the stairs, services and systems were updated, and outdated architectural features were simplified with cleaner detailing more in line with the clients' calm, pared-back design direction.
